NTG7 update overview
NTG7 is the second-generation Mercedes MBUX platform. Some NTG7 vehicles can receive online map updates through Mercedes services, but manual USB updates can still ask for a license key depending on vehicle, region, subscription and update path.
If the car is already updating maps online, a manual activation code may not be needed. This guide is for cases where a USB map update explicitly asks for a Map License Key, Navi PIN or activation code.
Common NTG7 vehicles
NTG7 / MBUX Gen 2 is commonly associated with W223 S-Class, W206 C-Class, W214 E-Class, W167 GLE/GLS facelift, V297 EQS, X296 EQS SUV, V295 EQE, X294 EQE SUV and other newer MBUX vehicles. Fitment can vary by market and model year.
Many NTG7 interiors use a portrait-style centre display and a touch-focused interface without the older COMAND controller.
OTA vs manual USB update
Online map updates may update the registered region automatically when the vehicle has service coverage and a suitable connection. Manual USB updates are different: the map data is downloaded to a storage medium and installed in the vehicle.
Only order a code when the manual update flow asks for one. If the vehicle can update online and does not request a code, the USB code flow may not be relevant.
Region and version checks
NTG7 can be strict about region compatibility. Korean, Japanese, Southeast Asian, North American and European market vehicles can have different supported map packages. A code cannot unlock a package that the head unit refuses to install.
The version must also match. If the tracker shows a newer release but the vehicle or USB package uses an older version, order the version that the car is actually installing.
Common NTG7 problems
- USB not accepted: check region, package integrity and USB preparation.
- Code rejected: compare VIN, region and version with the actual vehicle prompt.
- Update interrupted: keep vehicle power stable and do not remove the USB drive.
- Navigation missing: a map code cannot enable a vehicle feature that is not present.
Safe order flow
Prepare the USB, confirm that NTG7 is correct, verify the region and version, then order the code. The result is displayed online after processing and sent by email.
