NTG6 update overview
NTG6 is the first Mercedes MBUX generation. It appeared with the modern MBUX interface and was used across many compact, SUV and facelift models. Manual USB map updates can ask for a Map License Key, Navi PIN or activation code.
NTG6 updates are sensitive to region and version. A code ordered for the wrong region or version will not normally be accepted by the vehicle.
Common NTG6 vehicles
NTG6 / MBUX Gen 1 is commonly associated with W177 A-Class, W247 B-Class, C118/X118 CLA, H247 GLA, X247 GLB, W213 E-Class facelift, C257 CLS facelift, W167 GLE, X167 GLS, later W463 G-Class and several Mercedes-EQ models from the first MBUX generation.
Visual clues include a wide landscape MBUX display, touchpad control and first-generation "Hey Mercedes" functionality. Use these as clues, not final proof.
USB update process
- Prepare the map package using the correct Mercedes update flow.
- Select NTG6, the correct region and the desired compatible version.
- Install the package from USB in the vehicle.
- Wait for the license key prompt.
- Order the code for the exact VIN, region and version shown.
Region compatibility
NTG6 head units can be market-specific. Imported vehicles from Japan, Korea, Southeast Asia or another region may reject a local-market map package. If a car does not recognise the USB or rejects the key, region mismatch is one of the first things to check.
Installation stability
Use a reliable USB drive and keep the vehicle powered. Large map packages can take a long time to install. Do not remove the USB drive or allow the vehicle to sleep during the update.
When a code will not help
A map activation code cannot add a missing navigation entitlement, repair a broken USB package or change the head unit region. If the navigation menu is missing or the vehicle rejects the update before asking for a license key, solve that issue first.
Before payment
Check the VIN, NTG6 selection, region and map version one final time. After successful payment, the portal shows the result on the success page and emails it to the address used for the order.
